The United States Government recognizes the critical importance of America's manufacturing industry and its role in our country's economic turnaround and the nation's homeland security.
The Department of Defense has attributed military readiness problems to an ineffective and cumbersome procurement process. Small and medium manufacturers are struggling while government requests for proposals (RFPs) are going unfulfilled. Today many RFPs do not receive bids, resulting in part shortages, manufacturing delays, and cost overruns. The DOD has an immediate and urgent need for qualified vendors. As a result, the American government is committed, more than ever, to growing it’s industrial base while broadening and strengthening their supply chain.
The Department of Defense (DOD) has launched the “Connecting American Manufacturing” initiative to better connect DOD’s manufacturing needs with U.S. manufacturing capabilities.
